Ageratum houstonianum, also known as flossflower or bluemink, is a whimsical and delicate flower that pops up in the late summer and blooms in the fall. Although often overlooked, and occasionally dismissed as a common weed, ageratum is actually an inspiring little plant. It has a subtle persistence and understated elegance that deserves to be celebrated. The blue corymbs and bright green opposing leaves complement the chocolatey gas-fired redware and offer refreshing splashes of color on dishes, plates, bowls and platters. Each piece is hand painted with layers of slips and then incised with a sharp tool to reveal the clay underneath.
